But for this post I was lucky enough to interview Kobe Ellis. Below: Just to be clear, my 'questions' are in black courier text, and Kobe's responses are in purple times text. Hope you enjoy reading the interview as much as I did reading her responses. I would like to take a moment to thank Kobe for participating in this interview. It is easy to just get settled, or comfortable and I don't want to do that, I want to stay in a mode of learning and offering the best skills and products that I can to my clients. I am also a single mom of two children and I try to make time for them and have a life outside of work. That is a struggle in itself, but I think it shows them that hard work has rewards and you have to make time for those you care about. Then there is the social media, paperwork, etc. as an entrepreneur and owner of a business that is never ending and I try to limit my time in those areas while still giving the attention needed. So, all in all, a typical day for me is different from the one before, challenging, and busy, but I love it that way and feel blessed I have the opportunities that I do to work at what I love."

3.What drew you to this industry? One evening, while in my final year of college, I prayed for guidance as to how I could do what needed to be done for me to provide for my family. One day, my sister, mother and I traveled from West Palm Beach, Fl. to Miami to get eyelash extensions. They were terribly uncomfortable so we removed them just hours after getting. As a result of that experience, my sister and I developed a technique for placing eyelash extensions so that they were “Barely There.” I felt the answer to my prayer had come: I would Introduce Eyelash Extensions to the city of Jacksonville, Florida. Before long, my business became a niche market. From there, my business grew and my services expanded; first brows and skin care then I learned hair replacements when my mother became ill with Breast Cancer. I found that I really enjoy providing services that help people with self image.

4.How long have you been in the business?
I have been in the beauty business for almost 10 years. I initially started my business, Eyes By Kobe LLC, with the primary intent to introduce Eyelash Extensions to Jacksonville, Florida I added other services as I found a demand, which included eyebrow shaping. Eyebrow shaping is actually one of my specialties. I<s> </s>was taught how to do Threading when I was about 12 years old. So, you could say I have had a “few’ years to hone my technique!

5.What’s your favorite beauty line/product and why?
The beauty industry is forever changing. Every day, it seems, there is a new beauty product on the market designed to give better coverage, reverse the signs of aging, last longer and so on. I do my best to keep up with the industry by constantly studying. For the most part, I am interested in products that are healthy for the skin. Products that contain the least amounts of toxins capture my attention the most. I am not actually brand loyal, but rather purpose and quality loyal.

6.What’s your go-to outfit “recipe”?
When it comes to work, my go-to-outfit is anything fashionable for the season with pockets, comfortable, black with a splash of color, a nice hat (sometimes) and manicured nails, since I work with my hands. My shoes are always lightweight and comfortable. I have to dress comfortable and be ready for a long day on my feet.

7. When do you feel the most confident?

After church for sure, and then when I have a customer who truly feels renewed by my efforts for them.

8.What makes a person beautiful?
What makes a person beautiful? I have learned more about the construction industry than ever expected. I am now well versed on city codes, inspections, paint, refurbishing, making the best use of space, money and time. I have learned how to make the best of what I have, how to seize opportunities when they arise and pay ONLY when the job is complete! I have kept very extensive notes along the way and I would love to help others who are thinking of undergoing the process of starting a salon. I may write a short what to do and what not to do eBook someday!

10. What have you learned along the way that sticks with you every day?

Muy importante: You don’t have to do everything yourself. Hire professionals who are skilled in areas I am not. I’ve learned to “stay in my own lane” and let others do their jobs without me putting in my 2 cents. Above all, I have learned to “Be still” allow things to happen as they should, in natural order and time.

11.Giving back is important. What’s your favorite non-profit organization?
Giving back and paying it forward are <s>two</s> things I was taught from a young age and have been practicing for as long as I can remember. From the very day that I conceived the idea of my business, I knew I wanted to incorporate some type of community service activities. I have had the honor to work with many non-profit organizations. Two of my favorites are The Pink Ribbon Symposium which is a non profit organization organized in 2008. It is dedicated to educating the Northeast Florida community on recent advances and related topics in the detection, treatment and survivorship of breast cancer patients as well as the understanding of the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. Another is Soles for Souls, organized in 2005, they facilitate the donations of shoes, which are used to aid the hurting worldwide regardless of race, religion, class or any other criteria. Shoe companies, retailers, and individuals can donate footwear (both new and used). My new location will have art pieces from several local and distant artists. I do not take a commission from the sales, instead I only ask the artists to donate a percentage of their sales to The Pink Ribbon Symposium. I have set up for my salon to be a drop point in Jacksonville to collect shoes from the community for Soles for Souls. I am also hoping to get more involved with Dress for Success at some point.

12.What's your favorite inspirational quote?
As an English Major, I have read many through the years but there are actually two poems that inspire me often. Shaving, waxing, laser-removal, cream hair removers and whatever other product or service comes along leaves us with several options, but which one works best for each one of us is sometimes a puzzle.

For me, shaving has been my go-to-method for years, but it doesn't always offer great results. As I get older, my skin is changing and so is my hair. Razor burn, bumps and discomfort are just a few of the disadvantages of shaving. I've been searching for a better removal system and thought waxing might be a great alternative to shaving. I admit I even thought about revisiting the use of Nair, which I haven't used since I was in high school. Anyway, the waxing option seemed appropriate but I definitely wanted to try it first at home. I am modest, and I just didn't think I could bring myself to go to a waxing professional. So home-waxing, here I come... or so I thought.

I stood in the hair removal aisle at Target staring at the few options offered. "Which one should I try this time?" I thought to myself. This will be the 2nd waxing product I've tried in my life. The first wax product I tried was while I was in college, and it was a wax with strips so I knew I wanted to try stripless wax this time. I spotted Sally Hansen's Simple Spa wax kit, purchased it and tried it the same day. Before I continue, I have only given this product ONE trial so I may have a different outcome next time.

Rundown:
It took about 25-30 minutes for the wax to melt. While one should NEVER leave the warmer unattended while it's on, it still seems a little too dangerous to me to leave anything hot (and spillable) on that long in my home. After very closely watching the wax melt, stirring the wax and prepping the area, the wax seemed ready to apply. I applied a few swatches of wax, peeled the wax off as directed and studied what came off in the wax... disappointing. With the intense pain that came along with ripping the wax off my skin I thought that surely all the hair from those areas would be removed, but unfortunately the wax really did not seem to remove that much hair at all. From my first trial, I was disappointed. The pain from waxing was not worth the few hairs that were removed. I may have had better luck removing more hair by tweezing and plucking in the same time it took the wax to melt and maybe would have experienced less pain and definitely better results. HOWEVER, like I said earlier, this was my first trial with this product so I am willing to give it another go. When I do, I will let you know if I get better results. So overall, I do not want to give a solid conclusion opinion on this product yet because I have only tried it once and am willing to try it again.

I love how the cord neatly wraps up into the warmer.

The warmer itself is pretty lightweight so be careful to not move it or knock it over.

***If you've tried Sally Hansen's SIMPLE SPA, I would love to see your feedback. It just makes the day seem a little brighter. Just knowing our nails look groomed and pretty instantly adds confidence in our step. But since getting nails professionally done can get expensive and also a little worrisome when it comes to cleanliness, home manis are a great alternative. While they may not provide the complete relaxation of someone else giving the mani, it will save money and offer a different satisfaction because you can take the credit for such beautifully applied nail polish/ nail art.

Whether it's a professional mani or a home mani, try something new. The Midwest perfectly showcases the tone of fall. Changing seasons also means evolving fashion trends and makeup colors. Fall 2010 is all about understated drama. Shades of burgundy, plum, wine, jewel and metallic tones are at the focus of makeup trends for fall.

Lips:
I have seen a lot of burgundy lips on the runways; however in every day life, I am not such a fan of super dark lipstick. Nude or red lips are always fresh, but burgundy is tricky to pull of without looking dated or Gothic. Trying it out on your own lips is the only way to see what works for you.

Eyes:
Winged, or "cat-eye," eye liner is huge on the runway, and I am a fan of this trend. In fact, I often have worn and still wear my liquid liner in a winged version. The liner I wear though is a less dramatic "cat-eye" portrayal than what is on the catwalks this season. If you have not tried this trend (or classic? you decide), try winging your eye liner when you have some time to perfect your version.

I recommend using a liquid liner that is fairly easy to swipe on and one that dries fairly quickly to prevent smudging. You can start at any point on your upper lash line. However, many makeup artists have a systematic way to apply this type of liner, whether the starting point is the inner portion, the middle or the outer portion of the eye. The key is for each eye to look alike and also keep each line is solid and precise. Find an application style that suits you best.

Cheeks:
Light blush and/or simple contouring is a perfect pairing with dark or red lips. If going with a lighter or nude lip, I suggest a touch of bronzer, even if paired with a light coating of blush. Contrary to what many makeup artists say is appropriate, I use bronzer all year long and as eye shadow, blush, and also, very carefully, for contouring. A little bronzer goes a long way, and I love how refreshing and warm it is. I use Physician's Formula Shimmer Strips in Sunset Strip. Just because it is colder outside does not mean that the sun disappears so bronzer still makes sense to me (if applied appropriately, of course). Makeup routines are personal so find what works best for you.

I plan to post more YouTube videos very soon, especially for tutorials so stay tuned at www.youtube.com/user/CatBstyle.

Thank you for reading. Make sure you test it first on a small area to check if you are allergic or get irritated. This recipe works for me but may not for you so try at your own risk. Everyone's skin is unique.

1. Mix together until paste-like the following items-
Coffee Grounds
Milk or cream
Citrus juice (pure)
Grape pulp
Honey, Olive Oil or Avacado
2. Apply as paste to desired area (I use it on my legs.)
3. Rub in circular motions for a good exfoliation.
4. Leave on for a few minutes if desired. You can even wrap legs in a warm towel and let sit for a more spa like experience.
*Baking soda and sugar are also wonderful exfoliants.
IMPORTANT: Do not use if skin is already irritated and immediately wash off if skin becomes irritated.
5. It is a time for going on vacations, swimming at a lake or pool and hosting BBQs. However, summer can also spell disaster in the beauty department if you are not prepared. Here are some summer basics (in no order) that should help you stay fabulous as you enjoy an amazing summer.

1. Wearing sunscreen daily should be second-nature by now, but I feel I still have to include this on the list. Make it a water resistant sunscreen if you will sweat or be in water. Reapply if you need to. Always protect your skin. There are some wonderful makeup formulas that include a sunscreen (if you do not need it to be water resistant). Also, protect your lips with SPF lip balm.

2. Exfoliating your skin at least weekly (as long as you are not sunburned) is still important as is moisturizing your skin. Always remove your makeup before you cleanse and exfoliate your face. There are many cleansers that also exfoliate. Try Neutrogena's Wave Duo. It cleanses and exfoliates simultaneously and can be used daily. ***If you have a sunburn, especially if it is still painful, do NOT exfoliate until your skin has healed or until you have spoken with your dermatologist.

3. If your usual foundation is too heavy for the hot and humid summer months, try tinting your moisturizer with a drop of concealer or foundation or use a pre-made tinted moisturizer available at many drugstores and makeup specialty stores.

4. Oil absorbing sheets are perfect for hot summer days when you start to shine in the not-so-camera-ready way.

5. Teeth whitening strips are a fabulous and affordable way to brighten your smile. Crest has some wonderful teeth whitening product options.

6. Summer is the perfect time, or excuse, to wear your hair tousled. Add a splash of salt water to your locks and voila, sexy beach hair created in your own home. It may not be appropriate to wear to the office, but on vacation or on weekends, this look can be ultra sexy, especially with longer strands.

7. Add a silky scarf or ribbon to your tousled hair as a tie around a low pony-tail or spice it up in a bun or add it to a loose side braid.

8. Summer is about fresh, airy and seemingly effortless style and beauty. Think simple, refreshing, light... Insert CoverGirl's slogan, "Easy, breezy, beautiful..."

9. Smile. This is always the number one way to look fabulous and confident. Additionally, smiling is contagious. Just watch the effect of your beautiful smile on others.

10. Think positively...about yourself. Confidence is key. See your beauty inside and out. And I know that summer can bring some added stress if you are uncomfortable with your body. The older I get, the more I have to work at caring for my body and reminding myself that I love my body even when I gain a few extra pounds. Everyone has a different body, and we are all beautiful in our own unique ways. Our differences are beautiful and fascinating.

Have a fabulous day every day, and enjoy your summer, beautiful!

Neutrogena Wave Duo Review

I personally try numerous facial cleansers, body cleansers, moisturizers and makeup products every year. I love to try new products and see the benefits of each. Skincare is important, and some products work better than others. That said, skincare is a very personal routine. Products work differently for different people so it is important to find what works for you.

The Neutrogena Wave Duo works wonders for me. I love it! Here is what I love about the Neutrogena Wave Duo:

1. I saw visible results after my first use. The box claims these results, and I definitely agree.
2. The Wave Duo is small and convenient enough for travel.
3. The Wave Duo comes in cute color choices, and I love pink!
4. My skin feels much softer and cleaner after using the Wave Duo.
5. It is a great exfoliator, and it does work well for men also, especially for a pre-shave cleanse.
6. The Wave Duo offers two speeds and is incredibly easy to use.
(The Wave Duo is a little noisy, but it is nothing compared to a hair dryer. Also, I do not use the Wave Duo every day because the pads (and packaging) are wasteful (even though they are tiny)- not to mention that buying the replacement pads gets a bit pricey. I wish there were a more eco-friendly Wave that had a reusable pad that would be washable... Neutrogena, take note- Green is in. :) )

Overall, I recommend the Neutrogena Wave Duo for excellent exfoliation and deep cleansing. When I use the Wave Duo (about 3 times a week), I use it after I remove my makeup with the Makeup Remover Wonder Cloth, and my skin looks and feels softer, cleaner and healthier. On the days I do not use the Wave Duo, I am trying other cleansers.

Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks! Have a fabulous day!

(c) 2009 CS

Review of Wonder(TM) Cloth: Makeup Remover Cloth

Makeup application is one of my favorite forms of art so I wear makeup daily. I love trying new makeup removal systems, and using the double-sided Wonder Cloth is one of my favorite ways to remove my makeup.

I bought my first Wonder Cloth for $9.99 at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I have had it for almost 2 weeks and have washed it in my washing machine just like any other wash cloth. The cloth does have a distinct smell to it, but for the amazing results, I can handle it. The Wonder Cloth removes all of my makeup fairly easily and gently exfoliates at the same time. Impressively, the Wonder Cloth even rinses out with no residual makeup stains.

I highly recommend this product for anyone who would like to remove their makeup easily and conveniently. In my experience, there has been no need to use makeup removal oil when using the Wonder Cloth (even on mascara) so the Wonder Cloth is especially great for anyone with oily skin. I also recommend this product for men to use before shaving.

Hope you find this review helpful. Beauty comes from within each of us. Our confidence, respect of others and ourself defines our true beauty. Respect for others should come easily for most of us. But when it comes to boosting our own confidence, some of us have some trouble... So what can we do to increase our own confidence? Well, LOTS!

1) We can think positively more often. Look yourself straight in the mirror and tell yourself at least 5 great things about yourself a day (name personality traits and physical ones to get the best results- both are important).

2) Realize that your body is your temple, not a curse. Focus on all of your amazing features.

3) Wear clothes that fit and flatter your figure and make you feel sexy.

4) Wear a sexy bra and panties for an extra boost of confidence. Wearing heels is also a great way to feel sexier instantly. *If you are not used to wearing heels, simply start practicing a few minutes a day. Before you know it, you will be a pro. :)

5) Drink more water! Really! Water keeps you hydrated, keeps your skin moist and beautiful and helps keep you healthier.

6) Work out with realistic goals. Working out is good for you and setting goals is important, but be fair to yourself and reward yourself often. Working out should be fun, not daunting or torturing.

7) You can eat healthy without giving up your favorite foods. Think "moderation."

8) Find hobbies that you enjoy. Spend time doing things you love (by yourself and with friends). Remember that you are more than a mom, wife, daughter, sister and/or girlfriend. You are your own person with your own passions and desires. When you do activities that you truly enjoy doing for yourself, you will feel so much better about yourself and your life (thus increasing your confidence).

9) Clear your head often. Take a vacation when possible. Relaxation is key when increasing your confidence and your quality of life.

10) Give yourself a break. We all make mistakes, and we must learn from them, not dwell on them. Confidence means that we can forgive ourselves and move past those situations.

11) Pamper yourself often. Take care of yourself spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, and any other way you can think of... Get your hair done, get a massage, whatever makes you feel good and relaxed. Pampering yourself (or getting pampered) will increase your confidence because you will feel better about yourself and your life. Are you seeing a trend yet? :)

12) Be true to yourself. Do what feels right to you. Follow your gut instincts.

13) Take healthy risks to increase your confidence. There are many things you can do to set yourself apart from the crowd. One of the most important things you can do is to be aware of the industry culture and the individual company culture of your potential workplace. Research the company with which you will be interviewing.

Here are some things to think about before you go to a job interview. Aside from mentally preparing for your interview and selecting a well-planned and well-coordinated outfit, you may want to give consideration to your makeup for that day also. Indirectly, your makeup may affect how well you do in the interview.

1. As stated above, be aware of the industry culture and individual company culture. Is your potential workplace conservative, artsy, laid-back, etc.?
2. How do you want your potential employer to view you?
3. For what type of position are you interviewing?
4. "Dress" for the job you want, not necessarily for the job you may get, yet without being over-the-top or flashy.
5. If you show up wearing black (or even bright pink) lipstick and heavy black eye liner to an interview at a conservative corporation/company, the interviewer (who may be your potential boss) may judge you as not sharing company beliefs and values simply because of the way you appear. If the workplace seems conservative (like large corporations, financial institutions, attorneys' offices, etc.), try softer, more natural shades of makeup. Think "professional" and fresh. You can always wear your dark/bright colors on your days off.
6. If the workplace seems a little more artistic or free-spirited (such as advertising agencies, dot-com companies, some retail chains, etc.), you may be able to wear brighter/darker makeup colors without a problem. Workplaces where you would be more creative tend to be a little more tolerant of wardrobe and makeup creative expression.

Here are some pre-interview tricks:
* Be prepared to answer tough questions with confidence. Make eye contact and smile.
* Fix/Style hair in a clean and neat way so you seem pulled-together and professional.
* Wash face and moisturize at the very least. You want to look alive and ready to work, not tired or easily distracted. You also want to appear clean, organized and prepared.
* Makeup is optional. Remember that makeup can help hide blemishes, under-eye circles and so forth. Makeup can help you appear more put together (and can hide the wild night before or lack of sleep). Unfortunately, people do often judge based upon looks.
* If you wear makeup, keep it minimal and mostly natural-looking.
* In addition to perfecting your resume, it is important to perfect your image as well (appropriate clothes, makeup, good hygiene, professional body language, smile, eye contact, etc.).
* Reduce eye puffiness with a cool cloth, chilled cucumber slices or chilled eye cream.
* Cover under eye circles with concealer to hide your lack of sleep.
* Use black-brown mascara on your top lashes, and focus on the outer eye lashes so you appear more awake.
* Skip eye liner on your bottom lash lines if you have dark circles or still look tired.
* Use oil blot sheets or a toilet seat cover to pat off excess oil. Shiny skin is not 'in.'
* Eat breakfast and stay hydrated (this is extremely important for your skin and your body).
* Think at least 5 positive things about yourself, and be confident. Start your day right!

Congratulations on your interview and good luck! Go get 'em! :)

(c) 2008 CB All rights reserved.

Makeup Basics

Whether you are a makeup beginner or a professional makeup artist, there are makeup basics that each of us should have in our cosmetics arsenal.

1.) Moisturizer- protects your skin and helps makeup apply easier and more evenly
2.) They have many great products, and their makeup remover towelettes pack is yet another amazing product.

The light blue plastic container holds 25 pre-moistened towelettes that remove most makeup with a gentle hand. I barely have to press on my face when using these towelettes to remove my makeup. I am very impressed by how easy the makeup comes off and with little residue. The towelettes leave my face feeling fresh and clean.

However, I do not have very sensitive skin so I am not certain how they would feel on sensitive skin (as the towelettes do contain a slight fragrance). I recommend trying them first in a small area to make sure you are not allergic to the formula used.

Overall, I highly recommend trying the Neutrogena (R) Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes. They are extremely convenient, and they work really well!

Subtle Smoke-inspired Look

1 2
3

4 5
Subtle Smokeout ->

The above look, "Subtle Smokeout," is inspired by the smoky eye makeup that is oh-so-popular. Smoky eyes do look fabulous! But most of us only wear that look in the evening, if at all. I wanted to try something a little different this time around, something a little more muted than the fully "smoky" look. The more subtle version (pictured above) should be easier to achieve and should be more acceptable to wear during the day. Please forgive my 'undone' eyebrows.

Step 1
Apply eyeshadow base, cream, concealer, etc. on your eyelids (you can put it higher also, depends on your preference- This technique is shown in photo above). Then, use black eyeliner or shade stick to cover entire eyelid (not upper brow bone).

Step 2
Apply a dark (or black) eyeshadow/pigment over the black eyeliner. Then, apply a bronzy eyeshadow to your crease (blend with the black). Now, apply a highlighter color to your brow bone down toward the space between your nose and eyes. You can even use this color (or the dark eyeshadow) under your lower lash line. In the photo shown, the highlighter was used under the lower lash line instead of a dark color.

Step 3
Now, apply a black liquid liner to your top lash lines to enhance your lashes.

Step 4
Curl eyelashes if desired (photo does not show this technique). Then, apply mascara of choice. I recommend two or three coats of CoverGirl Lash Blast (as used in photo).

Step 5
Finish the rest of your makeup on your face (like foundation if still needed, bronzer, blush, contouring, lips, etc.).

Thank you for reading my five steps to the "Subtle Smokeout" makeup application. If not, the following ideas are simple, inexpensive ways to achieve an amazing and personal space for you to apply your makeup. Applying makeup is one of my favorite times of day. I do have a special vanity set up, and it truly adds to the experience every morning!

*If you have an old desk, use it along with a mirror and a lamp or set up near a window to create your next-to-free vanity. In fact, I took my old computer desk, a full-lenth mirror and a desk lamp and turned them into my vanity. (I put the full-length mirror horizontally for extra mirror space.) I absolutely love having my own space to do my makeup and my makeup stays organized.

*If you have an old door or any wood you can finish or cover, two columns or sets of drawers/ file cabinets, a mirror and a good lamp, you too can create your very own vanity.

*If you have an unused dresser, you can also use that as a vanity!

Hope these ideas helped to inspire you. Pamper yourself today!

(c) 2008 CB All rights reserved.

Become a Red Carpet Goddess

Steps to a Picture-Perfect Flawless Makeup Application:
1. Wash Face.
2. Pat face mostly dry.
3. Moisturize face.
4. Apply Concealer* (under eye circles- usually cream-to-powder, liquid or even a mineral concealer- I do not recommend using a solid concealer on such a delicate area of your face.)
5. Dab on Foundation. (Use a cosmetic sponge if desired. Apply a tiny amount of foundation on outer area of lips and smudge inward for a blank canvas effect in preparation for step 12. Check the ingredients to make sure they are non-toxic.)
6. Apply Concealer* (to blemishes- usually liquid, solid or mineral concealer).
7. Apply loose (or compact) powder with big brush over entire face. You do not want to be too powdery though, just enough to set the foundation and prevent shine. Translucent powder works wonders!
8. Apply bronzer with medium or large brush in appropriate areas (cheeks, collar bone, cleavage if desired, besically where the sun would hit or where you want some extra glam).
9. Apply eyeliner (pencil, automatic or liquid), or apply wet eyeshadow with a small brush.
10. Apply eyeshadow cream on lid, and then apply eyeshadow powder on lid and under lower lashes (to prevent eyeliner from smudging).
11. Apply first coat of mascara. Then apply a second coat. Try Cover Girl Volume Exact or Lash Blast or both. ***Have you ever tried faux lashes? They provide a dramatic effect!
12. Apply lip liner, (lipstick or stain, if desired) and lip gloss. Try a nude or subtle shade for a fresh look.

*Concealer is the key to a flawless look. Find which kind of concealer and which application type works best for you.

*Makeup application is ALL about technique!!! AND practice makes perfect.

*Blend. Blend. Blend. Well, nutrition, daily facial care and makeup can help make this desire come true. Here are some tips to help you find what is right for you and your daily routine.

Skin Tone- “Cool” or “Warm”
-If you have a “cool” skin tone: Pinks, lavenders, blues and silvers are probably the most complimentary colors on you. To look the most natural, you would want to choose a “cool” foundation and/or powder. This means that the base hue in the foundation is blue/ pink. Of course, this does not mean that you should limit the rest of your makeup & style arsenal to only “cool” colors, just so long as the canvas, your face, is primed with the “cool” foundation or powder that matches your skin tone. Balance is the key here. If you want to wear a warm color, blend a cooler color with it to make sure it works with your cool skin tone. For example, a ‘warm’ copper can be ‘cooled’ by blending a pink hue. Think like an artist. Colors become what you make them!

-If you have a “warm” skin tone: Oranges, yellows, reds and golds are probably the most complimentary colors on you. To look the most natural, you would want to choose a “warm” foundation and/or powder. This means that the base hue in the foundation is yellow. Of course, this does not mean that you should limit the rest of your makeup arsenal to only “warm” colors, just so long as the canvas, your face, is primed with the “warm” foundation or powder that matches your skin tone. Balance is the key here. If you want to wear a cool color, blend a warmer color with it to make sure it works with your cool skin tone. For example, lavender can be ‘warmed’ by blending in a ‘warm’ copper hue. Think like an artist. Colors become what you make them!

What if you look good in ALL colors?
Then you are VERY lucky! You probably have a “neutral” skin tone, which means you should probably wear a “neutral” foundation and/or powder. However, you may be able to get away with either “warm” or “cool” foundations. “Trial and error” comes into play here! Get together with your girlfriends for a makeup play day!

How Do You Find the Perfect Color of Foundation For Your Skin?
To find your perfect color, pick out 3-4 different shades of foundation and swipe a minimal amount (with a cotton swab) on your jawline. The one that blends in the best is the shade you should purchase. However, if you do not find a shade that 'blends' well with your skin, try mixing 2 (maybe 3) shades at a time and trying the mixture on your jawline again. It is not unusual to have to mix a couple different shades. Afterall, not all skin colors are the same.

Diminish the Appearance of Fine Lines
Use a slight shimmering (light-reflecting, but not too glittery) foundation to reduce the appearance of fine lines. You can buy special formulas to reduce the appearance of fine lines, and they are labeled as such. Most of those formulas have a slight shimmer. If you use powder, use a minimal amount to prevent ‘caking’ in fine lines. I recommend applying powder with a big brush, and blend.

Changing With the Seasons
During summer, you may want to use a darker shade of tinted moisturizer/foundation/powder than what you use in the winter, that is IF your skin is darker in the summer (usually because of more sun exposure) and lighter in the winter.

Moisturizer!
-Always use moisturizer. Find which one works best for your skin, and use it every day.

-If you have fairly normal skin and live in a location where seasons change considerably, consider using a lighter (oil-free) lotion in the summer and a heavier cream in the winter.

-If your skin gets extra dry in the winter, skip powder and opt for a liquid foundation to help keep your face extra moisturized. If you do wear powder on top of foundation (good for setting), use it sparingly. Using powder without moisurizer and foundation under it can enhance the ashy/ flaky appearance of dry skin.

-If you tend to sweat a lot in the summer or will be outside for long periods, opt for tinted moisturizer because it is lighter than liquid foundation.

Mineral Makeup
This is another great option for most of us and for almost all year long. Those of you with sensitive skin, be sure to test a small area before committing to any makeup line, including mineral makeup. Some mineral makeup contain mica, which can cause an allergic reaction in some. If you do not have sensitive skin, I highly recommend using mineral makeup, even if just as a supplement to your liquid foundation. Mineral makeup helps give a flawless, natural look that feels light and fresh. Just remember to blend like crazy! :)

Make Your Own Tinted Moisturizer
To get natural-looking color and moderate coverage without the heaviness of foundation and powder, add a small amount of foundation or concealer to your normal moisturizer (with SPF, of course).

Concealer
-When covering pimples, use a solid, liquid or cream concealer that is ever-so-slightly DARKER than your skin. Sometimes using the same shade of concealer as your skin tone does work well depending on the blemish. A slightly darker concealer simply helps provide a minimizing effect for larger blemishes. Using a green-tinted concealer to neutralize redness works really well too. Some concealers even have acne-fighting ingredients. Just be careful not to use the medicated concealer near your eyes.

-For dark under eye circles, apply a liquid or cream concealer that is one shade LIGHTER than your skin, or use a yellow or orange/peach-tinted concealer to neutralize the blue circles.

-Mineral concealers also work well on both blemishes and under eye circles.

-Try each concealer type on yourself to see which works best with your skin (liquid, cream, solid, mineral, etc.).

Pamper yourself today!

(c) 2008 CB All rights reserved.

Glowing Skin

Your skin is important, protective, fascinating and beautiful. Treat your skin with care, loyalty and delicate hands. Here are a few tips to help you achieve the glowing skin you have always desired.

*Apply lip balm and lotion immediately after you shower and before you go to bed for extra smooth and silky lips and legs.

*To exfoliate chapped lips, dampen a cotton swab and gently rub until your lips feel smooth. A toothbrush will also work. You may want to use vaseline or other lip balm as a lubricant. Definitely apply a moisturizing lip balm immediately after exfoliating.

*Gently EXFOLIATE your skin before applying sunless tanner. (In my experience, sunless tanner works better if skin is moisturized also. However, this is a time for mini-trial applications to find what works best for you.)

*Or get an even tan with sunless tanning formulas by mixing the tanner in with a firming lotion or cream.

*If you find a streak after the sunless tanner has already dried, simply use whitening toothpaste (or lemon juice) on the problem area to lighten the tanner. If you get excess tanner on your skin and notice it right away, simply use an alcohol wipe like an eraser.

*Apply SPF daily, and wear your sunglasses when you are outside (even on cloudy days).

*Apply Vitamin E oil on legs at least once a week for even sexier legs.

*Exfoliate legs before you shave. It will help give you a smooth, clean shave and super silky legs. Moisturize legs thoroughly after you pat dry.

*Sugar and baking soda can be used as natural exfoliants. Just make sure you rinse thoroughly and moisturize after! Exfoliating your face and body once a week will really help your skin glow!

*You can create your own spa-quality facial masks in your own kitchen using a blend of apples, oranges, potatoes, oatmeal, bananas, carrots, grapes, yogurt, avocados, honey and/or cucumbers. Remember to test the formula in a tiny area before you use it on your entire face in case you develop an allergic reaction.

Apples and Tomatoes: Good for oily skin

Oranges/ lemons (harsher than oranges): Cleansers and refreshers
Potatoes: Skin-brighteners, reduces the appearance of redness

Oatmeal: Gentle on dry skin

Grapes: Good for fine lines
Avocados: Good for dry skin, also good for hair

Honey: Softens skin
Cucumbers: Calming skin-brightener, great for eye puffiness and circles

Pamper yourself today!

(c) 2008 CB All rights reserved.

Beautiful You

Beauty is that amazing quality about you that draws people in, attracts them to you, appeals to people all around you and makes you feel fabulous. I have a passion for art, beauty and helping people look and feel their best. My goal for this blog is to give you as much advice as you want about beauty (makeup, skincare, hair, reviews on products/services, how-tos, etc.).

I love writing and sharing my beauty knowledge. Blogging is my attempt to help as many people at once as possible. If you would like me to cover a certain topic, answer any questions, post photos and steps of desired makeup styles, post videos on specific how-tos, please leave your comments below. I would love to "hear" from you. :)

Also, if you would like to schedule an in-person consultation with me, please email me at cs.stylelife@yahoo.com, and I will then send you my cell phone number. I look forward to working with you.

Thank you for reading my blogs!
